Why is there a need for a Tunisian Arabic dictionary?

Tunisian Arabic (also known as Tounsi or Derja) is the native form of communication spoken amongst the over 10 million Tunisians, both domestically and diaspora. But historically, Tunisians have not learned Tunisian Arabic in schools. In the Tunisian public school system, Standard Arabic (also known as Fos7a) is taught first, followed by French, and in modern times, English as an option. As cited in the Ithaca Bound Languages article, "What is Tunisian Arabic?", and in the dictionary, it's thought that Tunisians only began writing their mother tongue down at mass about 25 years ago—with the advent of Facebook and text messaging on phones. Prior to this period, although Tunisian Arabic was the mother tongue and spoken daily by Tunisians, there was never a need to write it down. This Tunisian Arabic Dictionary presents to you Tunisian Arabic in its modern form and is considered the largest systemized treatment of Tunisian Arabic in history. Amongst over 900 pages, you can advance your learning and knowledge of Tunisian Arabic.
